Information

Whitstable Art Society (WAS) offers membership to all levels of skill and welcomes all people. WAS has members who are novice painters who like to get involved with other people who share an interest in art and who want to get more confident in their artistic ability. We also have some experienced and professional artists who want to develop, network and show their work.

WAS is a small society with a website that provides all the information on events and the activities we do.
The website address is https://www.whitstableartsociety.co.uk/
We also have a Whitstable Art Society Facebook page to share information.

WAS meets every other Wednesday from 2.00pm to 4.00pm. The dates can be found on the website.  We meet at the Swalecliffe and Chestfield Community Centre, 19 St John's Road, Swalecliffe, Kent, CT5 2QU.   Access is around the back of the building where there is also some parking.

The Wednesday session typically runs like this.  On getting to the building some members will be setting up tables and chairs and others will begin taking a seat and prepare their paints or drawing materials.  Members will begin working on the subject or task for that session.  The WAS website will tell you what the subject is going to be by looking in the ‘Calendar of Meetings’.  We continue until about 3.00pm when a cup of tea or coffee is offered and there's a chance to take a short break and look at people's work.  We then continue until about 3.50 when we begin packing and clearing up.   There will be some Wednesdays when we have a demonstration in a particular media and style which we can sometimes practice at the same time.  Please remember we are not an art teaching class.

The society currently has two regular exhibitions each year in Whitstable. There is one in the Horsebridge Arts Centre in Spring and one in the Fishslab Art Gallery in Autumn. We encourage members to show their art at these exhibitions. There will be a charge for showing each picture and there will be a limit to how many pictures you can put in the gallery.  Full details about exhibiting are circulated in good time. The aim is to show the very varied styles and talents of the society’s members and hopefully sell pictures. Members are expected to steward for a few sessions at each exhibition.

You can contact  the society through this website, by email at whitstableartsociety@gmail.com or  ask a member at our Wednesday afternoon meetings.
